Spirit of the Season Holiday Party 2017

Once again the Spirit of the Season brought out the volunteers to the basement of the Holy Cross Annex lifting the spirits of families and bringing joy to children.  Over 1300 adults and children were feed and provided with entertainment and a visit from Santa Claus who gave each an age-appropriate gift.  The event is a lot of hard work from the set up of the tables and chairs, to the setting up of the buffet tables, going to pick up food donated (in part) by local restaurants, making sure the performers know where to go and coordinating their performances.  After the lunch/dinner, with various foods from diverse local restaurants, Santa Claus arrived for a photo and a gift.  Below are some pictures. Click on pictures to enlarge the picture.

Thank you to all the sponsors and volunteers whose efforts brought Joy to the faces of Children and their families. We had our Sponsor banner up recognizing all our sponsors along with a video thanking the sponsors and letting everyone know who is making it all possible.

Thanksgiving 2017 Turkey Baskets / The Turkey & All the Fixings

This weekend, at the New Jersey Statewide Multicultural  HARRISON FEST COMMITTEE HEADQUARTERS, over 100 dedicated volunteers came together and helped to assemble and distribute 200 Thanksgiving Baskets to families in our community who are in need! Baskets were complete with a turkey, mashed potatoes, applesauce, yellow and white rice, sparkling wine, Sazon Goya, Goya mango juice, Goya spaghetti, Goya chorizos, Goya Maria cookies, Goya beans and a $25 gift card to Shop Rite or Seabras.

I would like to give special recognition to the Harrison Fire Dept. for their very generous donation and for also helping us deliver everything to the Holy Cross school. It is apparent that these men really enjoy giving to others.

There are no words that can express my gratitude to Isaias Sam of Goya Foods. I thank you for your support every year, helping us to bring happiness to hundreds of families. Thank you, again.

I would also like to thank all of the New Jersey Statewide Multicultural Celebration Sponsors whose Logo and Links to their websites appear at the bottom of this page.

I am also proud of the Harrison High School Environmental Club and Art Club students. They worked hard this whole weekend, and continue to want to do things for the community.

I would like to recognize and thank the following people/ groups:

The Harrison Fest Committee team members, Mayor James A. Fife, Father John Carlos De Sousa , Camacho FloatsSophia Collier of Kearny Bank.

Thank you also to my family for always being there, supporting me.

Thank you so much to all who came out and supported/ volunteered. The heart of a volunteer is never measured in size, but by the depth of the commitment to make a difference in the lives of others.

God bless you, and have a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,

Councilman Anselmo Millan,

President Harrison Fest Committee

Harrison Fest 2017 Main Banner Up

The Harrison Fest 2017 Main Banner was installed early today with the assistance of the Harrison Department of Public works in its traditional place in front of Town Hall.  All along Harrison Avenue, the Street Arches were also worked on today to replace sensors which were preventing a couple of the arches from lighting up at night.  The sensors have been replaced. Here are a couple pictures of the Main Banner and some Street Arches.  We have more to post here and on Facebook. Thank you, Sponsors, which are noted on the different light arches.

We hope that if you are given the opportunity you also thank the men and women of these organizations for their support: (click on a name to learn more about the sponsor)

J.Supor & Sons, Goya Foods, Jaime Lucero, Chinatown Restaurant, G&S Logistics, Gree Air/Heat/Solar, Berto Construction, Hockmeyer Equipment, Harrison Chinese Association, Lusitania Bank, Pharmacy Plus, Investors Bank, St. Michael’s Medical Center, New York Red Bulls, Hudson County Chamber of Commerce, Silva Construction, Spanish Pavillion Restaurant, Kearny Bank and Alaris Health

Many of these organizations made it possible to have a record number of Street Arches all along Harrison Avenue from First Street to almost Schuyler Avenue.

A Special Thank You to the members of the Harrison Fire Department for their assistance throughout the year volunteering to assist all of Harrison Fest's activities including Thanksgiving Turkey Drive, the December Holiday Party for Children and Parents with Santa Claus, and of course our United Nations Queen Gala, Harrison Fest Parade & Street Festival.

Harrison Police: Harrison Avenue Closed For Multi-Cultural Festival

The Harrison Police installed their portable information billboard to let everyone know that Harrison Fest 2017 is on its way.  The sign on Harrison Avenue at 2nd Street just passed the Route 280 Overpass lets everyone know "Harrison Avenue Closed", "Harrison Multi-Cultural Festival" and "Sat & Sun, Sept 23rd & 24th".   Thank You Harrison Police Department.

The installation of The Harrison Fest 2017 Banner has been delayed over concerns of high winds expected on Wednesday and Thursday.  The Street Arches are up and this year there are more arches thanks to our sponsors.  A Harrison Fest 2017 Banner has been installed however along the fence on the Route 280 off ramp and the intersection with Harrison Avenue.

It's A Wrap: Miss United Nations Queens Gala 2017

Last night the Harrison Fest 2017 Miss United Nations Queens Gala brought together Twenty-One Queens representing a country of their family heritage. The Holy Cross Banquet hall was sold out and as the room filled up there was, as usual, the mood of anticipation before the Queens took the stage.  Once the Queens took the stage everyone relaxed and enjoyed the evening.  Master of Ceremony Tiffany Monterossa did a wonderful job. Tiffany is a former Harrison Fest Queens Gala. Queen.  If you were at the Gala Dinner please share your photos on Facebook. The Queens will at the Harrison Fest Parade next Saturday, September 23, 2017.  The Queens have their own float.  The Parade kicks off at 12 noon along Harrison Avenue from Davis Street to North 2nd Street

Outfront Media Spreading the Word

Outfront Media Spreading the Word

Outfront Media is a member of the Harrison community and it has continued its support of the greater Harrison community by having its artist create some very beautiful Electronic Billboard Advertisements to spread the word that Harrison Fest's United Nations Pageant will be held on Friday, September 15th, 2017 and our Street Festival and Parade will be held on Saturday, September 23 and 24th.    Three years ago OutFront media converted its billboard overlooking Route 280 in Harrison from a traditional (static) billboard to an electronic billboard.  The billboard went live shortly thereafter and coincided with Harrison Fest 2015.  Outfront Media was nice enough to produce and display advertisements on short notice.

OutFront Media has once again designed and offered to display information about our events to get the word out about our United Nations Gala Pageant, our Parade, and our Street Fair events.  There are three distinct Harrison Fest 2017 advertisements.  So take a look. A big Thank You for OutFront Media for your support.  The Route 280 location is ideal for running an Advertisement with the traffic traveling on Route 280 and coming into Harrison off the exit ramp.  If you are interested in having Outfront create a Billboard advertisement for you visit their website for additional information www.OutfrontMedia.com
